Close to 900 children and adults came out on a rainy February evening to celebrate theater arts education at the Front and Center Theater Extravaganza in Culver City’s Veteran’s Memorial Building. It was exciting to see students of all ages join together in the theater workshops, mask making activities and a staged showcase of Front and Center programs. All six of the Collaborative’s art partners (24th Street Theatre, The Actors’ Gang, Center Theatre Group, Story Pirates, We Tell Stories and Young Storytellers) bring to our schools. Children in the audience were eager to participate in the performances, as they do as part of the Front and Center programs at their schools.
Now in its 8th year, the Front and Center Theatre Collaborative offers a variety of assemblies, workshops and professional performances for elementary and secondary students throughout our school district, as well as professional development opportunities for teachers. This year alone, the Collaborative’s art partners are delivering over $200,000 worth of programming, 475 hours of classroom and afterschool instruction, and more than 30 assemblies and field trips for our students.
All of the Front and Center programs are free to participating students, but they could not exist without a lot of private financial support. In fact, CCEF must raise tens of thousands of dollars every year to keep the programs going.
This year CCEF and the Front and Center Theater Collaborative have set a fundraising goal of $20,000 to be raised by April 1 in order to help CCEF fund these extraordinary programs through the 2017-2018 school year, and we need your support.
