Legacy Gifts

Make an impact on generations to come. Leave a lasting legacy for the students of tomorrow.

“It takes a noble man to plant the seed for a tree that will some day provide shade to people he may never meet.” – Dr. David Trueblood, Philosopher

philanthropyThere are a number of ways you can make a gift that will have a lasting impact upon Culver City students, teachers, and schools for years to come, and several of these require no immediate cash transfer. Transferring your accumulated assets to CCEF to benefit public education in Culver City is a tremendous way to leave a legacy and ensure quality educational opportunities for our students for generations to come.

Bequests

One of the most popular types of legacy gifts, bequests are gifts to CCEF designated in your will that are simple, flexible and versatile. All you need is to add a few sentences to your will using our official legal bequest language.  Because the gift is made after your death, you can change your mind at any time simply by changing your will.  It’s flexible because you can specify anything from money to a prized possession to a percentage of your estate.  Bequests are also entitled to an estate tax charitable deduction for their full value.

Beneficiary Designations

Naming the Culver City Education Foundation as the recipient of your assets, IRAs and retirement plans, or life insurance or insurance annuities allows you to support CCEF and often leave your heirs with many tax advantages.  For instance, most retirement plans aren’t subject to income tax during your lifetime, but can be taxed as high as nearly 40% upon your death.  Life insurance policies are a low-cost way to leave a large gift by naming CCEF as the beneficiary.  Unlike life insurance, insurance annuities leave your beneficiaries with a tax burden upon your death, unless donated to a charitable organization like CCEF.

Endowed Gifts

The Culver City Education Foundation Endowment Fund will be held in perpetuity. In this early stage, no money will be spent prior to attaining $100,000. Gifts directed to this fund are invested under the auspices of the California Community Foundation. After accumulating $100,000 a portion of its average investment return will be spent as directed by the Foundation or the donor. A donor who creates an endowment gift today can be confident that it will grow and continue to support the Culver City Unified School District (CCUSD) in future years. Unrestricted gifts allow the Foundation to address the highest priority needs, which may change over the years, of the CCUSD. However, as with any donation to the Foundation, your gift can provide for programs of special interest to you.

Real Estate

A gift of real estate allows you to continue to enjoy your home today and pass on its value so CCEF can sustain its ever-expanding support for students in our public schools. Also called a retained life estate, you have the right to retain ownership of the property throughout your lifetime.
