CCUSD Theater Stands Out
It has been a standout season for theater across CCUSD. On November 10, 2025 the AVPA Foundation was honored at City Hall in recognition of its 30th Anniversary and long-standing dedication to supporting high school arts education in Culver City.
CCMS Advanced Theatre also had an exceptional showing at the 83rd Annual DTASC Fall Festival, where they competed against 35 schools from across Southern California. Under the leadership of Allegra Williams, CCMS students earned awards in every category they entered and placed 3rd overall in Sweepstakes, the festival’s highest cumulative honor. Their Musical group was one of only two middle school ensembles invited to perform at the “Salute to the Winners” showcase at Loyola Marymount University.
CCHS Theatre students performed equally admirably at DTASC. Highlights included first place in Open Drama for a scene from The Children’s Hour, second place in Costume Design for Hadestown, and fourth place in Marketing/Publicity Design. Culver City High School placed 5th overall out of 52 participating schools. Importantly, many students participated in DTASC for the first time this year, bravely stepping into a new and challenging performance setting.
In addition, AVPA Theatre students are hard at work preparing their fall play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, which will be performed at the Kirk Douglas Theatre November 13-16. Through the Front & Center Theatre Collaborative, students receive mentorship from professional directors, actors, and designers and gain the experience of performing in a professional venue.
These accomplishments illustrate the strength of theater education across CCUSD, from middle school ensembles to advanced high school performers.
Donations to CCEF help make these opportunities possible, supporting instruction, performance experiences, and collaborations that help students learn, express themselves, and grow.
