The Impact of Music in Our Schools
87% of teachers and 81% of parents believe children should have a chance to learn to play musical instruments as early as elementary school.* Sadly, many school districts only offer limited music instruction opportunities due to a lack of public funding.
Your donations to CCEF fund initiatives throughout CCUSD beginning at the elementary level that provide students with the opportunity to continuously learn skills using the power of music. Professional musicians with the Symphonic Jazz Orchestra (SJO) come into every 4th and 5th grade classroom to help students learn about music from around the world and grow their appreciation for the cultures they belong to. Recorders (or rhythm sticks during COVID) provided to all 3rd grade students across the district open the door to an education in instrumental music they can continue throughout middle school and high school, where CCEF provides funding support for instruments, marching band uniforms, SmartMusic teaching software, and more. For the past two years, CCUSD has received NAMM’s (National Association of Music Merchants) Best Communities for Music Education Award, recognizing the outstanding efforts made by teachers, administrators, parents, students, and community leaders for their commitment to music education as part of a well-rounded education.
The value of music education has proven undeniable for students after months of distance learning. Dr. Tony Spano, Executive Director & Creative Director of Music at Culver City High School, states, “After returning to in person learning this year, the benefits of Music Education in our schools became even more apparent than ever in the way students rejoiced in making music with their friends – all in the same room… The students enrich their creativity, their socializing, and their expression by working as an ensemble, collaborating to learn and perform music.”
